The Chicago Bulls could be without their engine on Monday night.
According to the NBA’s latest official injury report, Josh Giddey’s status for tonight’s battle against Victor Wembanyama remains unclear. The Bulls’ lead guard is listed as “questionable” with an ankle sprain. He suffered the injury during Saturday night’s meeting with the Cleveland Cavaliers. While trying to guard De’Andre Hunter along the perimeter, Giddey could be seen rolling his ankle and immediately falling to the court. Bulls trainers eventually helped him to his feet and guided him to the locker room.
Despite some clear pain, Giddey shortly returned to the bench and eventually checked back into the game. While he was able to finish things out, the 23-year-old appeared to be moving with some limitations. He told the media after the game that his ankle was feeling “ok,” but the Bulls are clearly keeping a close eye on it as they head toward an important meeting with the Spurs.
Indeed, the Bulls are trying to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season. Giddey has been the catalyst for their hot start, averaging 21.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game. He is also currently tied for second in the NBA with seven double-doubles. Losing him for a matchup with the 7-2 Spurs would be a major hurdle to overcome. San Antonio has been one of the best teams on both ends of the floor this season. Especially with Coby White also still on the sideline, the Bulls would have major shoes to fill at the lead playmaker position.
Speaking of which, while White is still a handful of days away from making his return, he took a step in the right direction on Monday.
