Three goals in 12 minutes turned a sedate lunchtime kick-off into a chaotic finale as Tottenham and Manchester United shared a 2–2 draw in north London.

For a long time, it looked as if Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half header would be enough to win it for United. But substitute Mathys Tel levelled late on, and then Richarlison struck what looked like a stoppage-time winner.

Then, deep into the sixth minute of injury time, Matthijs de Ligt rose highest from a corner to head home and salvage a point for United, who would have been furious to leave empty-handed.

The result extends United’s unbeaten Premier League run to five games under Ruben Amorim, their longest streak so far under the Portuguese manager.

Despite the point, it was another poor home performance for Tottenham, who have still won just once at their own stadium in the Premier League this season.

In a first-half that was completely devoid of any attacking quality, it was almost a surprise when Mbeumo opened the scoring after 30 minutes. Even then it felt like an accident, with Spurs comically failing to clear their lines in multiple occasions. A cross from Amad Diallo eventually found Mbeumo unmarked at the back post, and the forward nodded home.

That goal was Mbeumo’s fifth against Tottenham in the Premier League, his joint-most against any opponent in the competition.

Spurs were flat for most of the afternoon, failing to register a first-half shot on target for the second home game this season – something that happened only once across all of last season. It’s clear they are struggling to find a reliable number nine: Randal Kolo Muani has been injured and is taking time to adapt since joining, while Richarlison’s late goal was only his second in his last 16 appearances in all competitions.

They did show more intent after the break. Cristian Romero forced United goalkeeper Senne Lammens into his first save with a close-range header, before João Palhinha’s volley drew another stop. Both efforts came from set-piece situations rather than open play, though, underlining Spurs’ limited creativity.

They did find the net briefly when Brennan Johnson scored from an offside position, but as the clock ticked down, United looked the more composed side.

Then came the late chaos. Tel, on the pitch for less than five minutes, spun brilliantly inside the box to slam home the equaliser. Moments later, Wilson Odobert’s strike from distance was headed on by Richarlison to give Spurs a 2–1 lead in the first minute of stoppage time.

But United refused to fold. De Ligt’s towering header from a corner earned them a deserved point, though the manner of the finish likely left both managers frustrated.

Spurs’ home form remains a major concern; they’ve won just once at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium all season and were second best for long spells here. United, meanwhile, have now gone eight games without beating Spurs in all competitions (D3 L5). Still, Amorim can take satisfaction from his side’s resilience and their ability to fight until the end.

Manchester United are unbeaten in each of their last five Premier League games (W3 D2), their longest run in the competition since February 2024 (W4 D1).  Today was the first time that Tottenham have gone ahead in the 90th minute of a Premier League game and not gone on to win.
