2025 HUNGARIAN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wednesday, November 5th – Saturday, November 8th Debrecen, Hungary SCM (25m) Day 1 Recap/Day 2 Recap Live Results

Day three of the 2025 Hungarian Short Course Championships saw a national record go down at the hands of Lora Fanni Komoroczy.

Racing in the final of the women’s 50m butterfly, 19-year-old Komoroczy fired off a time of 25.62 to grab the gold, hitting the sole time of the field under the 26-second barrier.

Dominika Varga touched next in 26.32 for silver and Petra Senanszky wrangled up bronze in 26.48.

As for Komoroczy, her time sliced .02 off the longstanding Hungarian benchmark of 25.64 Olympic legend Katinka Hosszu put on the books over a decade ago in 2014.

Entering this competition, Komoroczy’s career-swiftest SCM 50 fly performance rested at the 25.85 notched to place 21st out of the heats at last year’s Short Course World Championships so she dropped .23 en route to gold.

On her accomplishment, Komoroczy told the Hungarian Swimming Association,”I was the most surprised, I didn’t expect to achieve this record at all. At university I always swam on the backstroke, less often on the butterfly… I was blind at the finish line, I just looked at the board, it said 26, then I saw it was 25, but then it was 62… It dawned on me that this was a national record… As I told the girls, this is really a big deal, but I think it’s really cool!”

A pair of national age records also were established over the course of the evening, one in the men’s 200m free and one in the men’s 50m fly.

In the former, David Antal produced a time of 23.26 to place .01 off the podium. That nabbed a new Hungarian age record for 17-year-olds, taking over the former time of 23.52 Zoltan Bagi clocked last year.

Landing on the podium were Szebasztian Szabo, Richard Marton and Adam Jaszø.

Szabo stopped the clock at 22.57 for the decisive victory, with Marton next to the wall in 23.04 and Jaszo behind him in 23.25.

29-year-old Szabo is a former world record in this event, owning a lifetime best of 21.85 from 2021.

Oliver Papai nabbed the second age record on the evening en route to placing 7th in the men’s 200m free.

Papai produced an outing of 1:46.02, a mark which lowered Kippany Kakuk‘s previous record for 16-year-olds of 1:46.31 from 2024.

Papai already owns the 200m free record for 13-year-olds (1:54.20) and 15-year-olds (1:46.62).

Topping the 200m free podium, however, was Nandor Nemeth.

Nemeth registered 1:43.96 to get the job done, holding off Balazs Hollo (1:44.88) and Richard Martin (1:45.07).

Finally, Romania’s Brigitta Vass doubled up on her 100m breaststroke victory earlier in the meet with another win in the 200m breaststroke.

Vass punched a time of 2:24.04 for the gold. However, behind her was Hanna Zambori, just 16 years of age.

Zambori secured the national title with a time of 2:24.97, keeping bronze medalist Henrietta Fangli, who turned in a time of 2:25.30, at bay.

Zambori told the Hungarian Swimming Association after the race, “Wow, what happened here is pretty unbelievable… I think I’ll cry in five minutes if I don’t have to give any more interviews… Actually, the goal was to break the year’s record, which I managed to break, although my parents and coaches said I had a chance, but it’s still hard to believe.”

Additional Notes

Panna Ugrai was too quick to catch in the women’s 200m free, posting 1:54.98 as the top performer. That held off visiting Austrian swimmer Marlene Kahler, with Kahler clocking 1:57.78. Fanni Fabian rounded out the podium in 1:58.93. Another Austrian got on the podium, courtesy of Christopher Rothbauer‘s 2:06.01 performance in the men’s 200 breaststroke. He defeated the field handily with Gabor Zombori settling for silver in 2:08.58 followed by Hollo who earned another medal with 2:10.46 for bronze. In a span of 40 minutes, Zombori also took on the 400m IM where he found success, grabbing gold in 4:08.58. Eszter Szabo Feltothy captured the women’s 400m IM gold in 4:36.95, the only swimmer under the 4:40 threshold.
