ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Veterans Day is right around the corner. The Rochester area is honoring the service and bravery of local veterans with events on and before Tuesday, Nov. 11.
In Monroe County, there are over 31,000 veterans, which make up 4% of the population, according to the most recent Census. Here’s your guide to upcoming events.
RIT Veterans Day Breakfast (Friday)
More than 350 veterans will gather at the Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday for the 14th annual Veterans Day Breakfast. It’s happening from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Gordon Field House.
The event will honor veterans with a presentation of colors, an armed forces salute, and a keynote address from Viviana DeCohen, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services.
Veterans Day Parade ending at Highland Park (Saturday)
Monroe County is honoring veterans with its fourth annual parade on Saturday. The parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of South Goodman Street and Highland Avenue. After that, it will proceed up Highland Avenue to the Greater Rochester Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Gary Beikirch Park on South Avenue.

The parade will feature marching bands, veterans’ service organizations, military-style vehicles, and veterans of all eras and military branches. The grand marshal of this year’s parade will be Honor Flight Rochester. That’s the nonprofit that flies local veterans to D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to their service.
Brighton Veterans Day ceremony (Tuesday)
The Town of Brighton is honoring veterans with a ceremony on Tuesday at Veterans Memorial in Buckland Park on Westfall Road. It starts at 2 p.m.
The ceremony will honor Gary Ginsburg of the David J. Kauffman Post 41 of the Jewish War Veterans. The Buffalo Soldiers will post colors. It’s open to all members of the public.
