Regardless of those feelings, though, there’s no disputing that they’re the clear-cut top dogs after Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings reveal.
Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss hold the top 6 spots in the first ranking of the season. Together, per SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic, they give just 2 conferences the top 6 teams for the first time in the CFP’s history.
The initial 2025 @CFBPlayoff rankings mark the 1st time in the 12-season history of the CFP only 2 conferences represent the top-six teams.

Two of the losses — Ole Miss to Georgia, and Georgia to Alabama — have come to one another. The only negative result to not feature 1 of those 6 squads is the Crimson Tide’s 31-17 beatdown from Florida State back in Week 1.
There’s a chance the SEC and Big Ten could, at some point, contain the nation’s top 7 teams. Oregon is currently ranked No. 9, but has only a loss to Indiana on its ledger. Wins against CFP-ranked Iowa (No. 20), USC (No. 19), and Washington (No. 24) in the coming weeks could potentially vault them above BYU and Texas Tech, who matchup this weekend in Lubbock.
