Chicago Bulls Injury Report: Will Ayo Dosunmu Suit Up Against 76ers? ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Chicago Bulls are sure hoping that Ayo Dosunmu gets the green light tonight.

After exceeding expectations with a strong 5-0 start, the Bulls suffered their first loss of the season at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Falling on the road to a Knicks team that is fresh off an Eastern Conference Finals appearance isn’t reason enough for this young and frisky group to hang their heads. Believe it or not, they weren’t going to go 82-0.

With that said, a loss is a loss. The Bulls now have to prove they can avoid letting one defeat spiral into several. And one thing that could undoubtedly help them accomplish that is welcoming Dosunmu back into the fold.

The guard is currently listed as “questionable” on the injury report with a left quad contusion. The good news is that he reportedly got shots up at the end of today’s shootaround, per The Athletic’s Joel Lorenzi. But whether or not this means the Bulls will make him a full go remains unclear.

Will Ayo Dosunmu Miss Two Straight?

Ayo Dosunmu missing his first game and the Bulls losing their first game sure doesn’t feel like a coincidence. He has easily been one of the team’s top performers to begin the year, making a very early case for the Sixth Man of the Year Award. Dosunmu has averaged 16.2 points per game on 57.7 percent shooting from the field. He’s also started 10-21 from downtown and has finished multiple games for Billy Donovan despite starting the night on the bench.

Whether it be his acceleration in transition, his crafty finishing skills in the halfcourt, or his length and hustle on the defensive end, Dosunmu’s skills off the bench have been a real weapon. He is the biggest reason why there has been such a strong crossover between the Bulls’ starters and their second unit.

Especially when we consider Tuesday’s matchup with Philly’s dynamic backcourt, Dosunmu’s availability feels essential. Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe have been on a tear to start the year, and they have also helped the Sixers score the second-most points per 100 possessions in transition, per Cleaning the Glass. Not only is Dosunmu one of the Bulls’ best defensive options along the perimeter, but he can help combat the 76ers’ open floor scoring with some of his own.

For what it’s worth, the rest of the Bulls’ injury report remains the same. Zach Collins and Coby White are both sidelined, while rookie Noa Essengue is away with the Windy City Bulls. As for the 76ers, they remain without Paul George and Domnick Barlow. They will, however, welcome Jared McCain on the court for the first time this season. Another talented young guard who can put real pressure on this Bulls’ backcourt with his high-IQ and well-rounded scoring ability, McCain’s three-point jumper is what the Bulls will have to look out for the most.
