The Chicago Bulls will continue their toughest stretch yet when they welcome the Philadelphia 76ers into the United Center on Tuesday night.
Suffering their first loss of the season to the New York Knicks on Sunday, the Bulls are hoping to avoid their first losing streak of the year against a fellow 5-1 team. Even if they are able to accomplish just that, however, dodging a losing streak could prove just as difficult over the next handful of games. The Bulls will hit the road for two straight against Central Division rivals following Tuesday night’s game. Then, they will return to Chicago to host a breakout Spurs team led by Victor Wembanyama.
As if these upcoming four games weren’t hard enough, one of those road matchups just became that much harder. The Bulls will suit up in Cleveland on Saturday, less than 24 hours after facing the Milwaukee Bucks in Wisconsin. The Cavaliers have been playing without All-Star point guard Darius Garland up until this point, which is undoubtedly part of the reason they have gotten off to a modest 4-3 start. The team has yet to officially announce when Garland will make his return, but ESPN’s Shams Charania dropped a pretty big update on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the insider, the Cavs are preparing for Garland to rejoin the team as soon as Wednesday night. The Cavaliers host the 76ers following their trip to Chicago. Then, they will play on Friday in Washington before the Bulls come to town Saturday night.
Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Darius Garland will make his season debut as soon as Wednesday night against the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN. Garland, who underwent offseason surgery to repair a big toe, will be upgraded on Cavs' injury report as he is set to return.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 4, 2025To be sure, it remains unclear how the Cavaliers will plan to handle Garland as he comes off his offseason toe surgery. Will he be on a tight minutes restriction for the next week, or could they even look to sit him in one of the back-to-back games this weekend as an extra precaution? This will be important to track throughout the week.
If one thing is for sure, Garland’s return will make a matchup in Cleveland that much harder for Chicago. He was a significant part of the Cavs’ balanced attack last season, which led to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference. Garland averaged 20.6 points, 6.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 40.1 percent from long range on high volume. All things considered, the Cavs have not been the same without his combination of shooting and playmaking, registering the fifth-worst offensive rating in the league so far. They were No. 1 in this department last season.
Again, the Bulls will still have to keep a close eye on exactly when Garland returns and how the Cavaliers manage him. But there is no question that Billy Donovan’s scouting report just changed a little as he looks ahead to this weekend.
