The Blackhawks actually did a really nice job of holding their own for 19 minutes and 59.9 seconds in the first period. With Wyatt Kaiser was in the box, Leon Draisaitl rifled a shot that got thru Spencer Knight for what would have been a power play goal to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead … if the shot went in before the clock hit all zeroes. It did not. And doughnuts remained on the board into the intermission.
Draisaitl did score late in the power play that carried over to start the second period. Just before the goal, Frank Nazar hammered Connor McDavid as he entered the zone. When the Blackhawks got their chance with a power play, they made the first one count. Tyler Bertuzzi tapped it in to tie the game at one. Unfortunately, the Oilers scored on their next power play to take the lead back.
The Hawks killed a penalty early in the third and then tied the game less than four minutes into the period. Chicago did a nice job of keeping the Oilers to the outside late in the period and were able to push the game to overtime. The Blackhawks out-shot the Oilers 11-4 in the third period.
Unfortunately, Evan Bouchard was able to win the game in overtime to take the second point.
Star 1: André Burakovsky
Burakovsky is really starting to be a difference maker on the ice with Bedard. He was credited with three of the Blackhawks’ six shots on net in the first period. At the end of the second period, the Blackhawks had a 21-11 Corsi For advantage at 5-on-5 while Burakovsky and an 11-5 shots for advantage. Burakovsky also had the highest expected Goals For (1.13) and expected Goals For percentage (69.53) thru two periods. He had the second assist on Bertuzzi’s goal and scored the game-tying goal early in the third period.

Bedard extended his point streak to four games (during which he has four goals and four assists) with the primary helper on Bertuzzi’s power play goal in the second period. After a few recent second periods have been bad for the Blackhawks, Bedard came out flying in the second. He had some swagger with it, too. Bedard had an expected Goals For percentage of 64.29 at the end of the second period, which was second on the team. He won 7 of 13 faceoffs in regulation.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 2, 2025Star 3: Frank Nazar’s Line
When the Blackhawks had Nazar, Bertuzzi and Teuvo Teräväinen on the ice against McDavid’s line at 5-on-5, the Blackhawks had a huge advantage in shot attempts. When Nazar and Teräväinen were on the ice against McDavid at 5-on-5 (more than seven minutes in regulation), the Blackhawks out-shot the Oilers 8-2 and had a 14-5 Corsi For advantage. That’s impressive from Nazar’s line. And why Nazar’s line was on the ice against McDavid’s in the final minute of regulation in the defensive zone.
Key Takeaways
Ryan Greene continues to impress me. He’s just a smart player who finds the puck and gets it to the right areas. The coaches have talked to him about continuing to move his feet, and he’s doing that more consistently. He made a nice play to start the Blackhawks’ second goal and picked up the second assist. Natural Stat Trick had the shot attempts at 24-17 at 5-on-5 in the first period, but the Blackhawks had a 5-1 advantage in high danger chances. The Blackhawks actually had a strong second period, holding a 15-13 Corsi For advantage at 5-on-5 in the frame. But the Oilers scored two power play goals to take a lead to the room. As a reminder: the Oilers are really good at 5-on-4. Avoiding the box is a good idea. The Blackhawks won 5 of 13 faceoffs in the first period (38 percent). Keep in mind: Dach was skating in the center spot on the third line with Jason Dickinson out, and he lost all three of his draws. So the other guys were 5 of 10 (50 percent). The Blackhawks won only 6 of 15 faceoffs in the second period — and Dach didn’t take a single draw. Bedard was 4-of-8 thru two periods to lead the team. Foligno won all four of his faceoffs in the first two periods. By the start of overtime, the Blackhawks were up to 47 percent at the dot. As Game 7 of the World Series went to the ninth inning we got a “Let’s Go Blue Jays” chant in Edmonton early in the second period. The game went to extra innings right as the second intermission began.
