The Bears could be facing a backup quarterback when they take the field in Cincinnati on Sunday. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said veteran Joe Flacco is “50-50” to play against Chicago as he continues to battle a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder. Flacco, who finished last week’s 39-38 loss to the Jets, returned to practice Thursday in a limited capacity after sitting out Wednesday, testing the injured shoulder on a rainy afternoon in Cincinnati.
Flacco’s availability remains the key storyline heading into the weekend, but his teammates don’t seem overly concerned. Star receiver Ja’Marr Chase said after Thursday’s practice that Flacco “looked normal” during drills. “Regular,” Chase said when asked about the quarterback’s form. “He looked pretty much the same to me. I didn’t know he was injured for real.”

Now, he may not be able to play. We may make that decision. But for him to want to put it out there for our team … certainly goes a long way.”
If Flacco can’t go, Jake Browning would start against a Bears defense that will again be without multiple starters in the secondary. Chicago’s plan will likely shift depending on which quarterback takes the field — but either way, slowing down Chase and Tee Higgins will remain the top priority.
Elsewhere on the Bengals’ injury report, defensive end Trey Hendrickson (hip) and linebacker Logan Wilson both missed practice for the second straight day, putting their Week 9 status in doubt. Linebacker Oren Burks was added to Thursday’s report as limited with a groin injury, while cornerback Marco Wilson remained out with a hamstring issue. On the positive side, Cedric Johnson (knee), Dylan Fairchild (knee), and Cam Sample were all full participants.
Cincinnati will practice again on Friday morning before hosting the Bears on Sunday at Noon.
