During a 2015 appearance on the BBC’s Paperback Writers, King opened up about his love for AC/DC, calling them “the best rock and blues band of all time." Two years earlier, during a Reddit AMA, he awarded the Australian hard rock band second place (behind Creedence Clearwater Revival) on his list of favorite bands.
According to Louder, King (who was already a huge fan of the band) tracked AC/DC down and serenaded them with their own song, "Ain’t No Fun Waiting Round To Be A Millionaire." The band was so charmed by the performance that they agreed to write the score for Maximum Overdrive, which featured both previously-released tracks (including "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Hells Bells") and new instrumentals "D.T." and "Chase The Ace," in addition to the movie's all-new theme song, "Who Made Who," which plays in the beginning of the movie.
In a rare interview which originally aired on MTV, King asked AC/DC singer Brian Johnson, guitarist Angus Young and bassist Cliff Williams to share their feelings about working on Maximum Overdrive.
“It was an interesting thing," Johnson replied. "It was the first time I’ve been involved in anything like that. The lads said it was a bit like moving mirrors because they had to be watching the clips spot on."
At least, all these years later, "Who Made Who" is still considered a hit...even if the same can't be said for the movie that inspired it.
