Arizona State special teams coordinator Charlie Ragle is taking an immediate leave of absence related to his health, according to Chris Karpman and Matt Zenitz.
ASU did not fire nor ask Ragle to step down despite the unit’s recent poor performance, Karpman added.
Assistant special teams coordinator Jack Nudo is expected to take over duties. He has special teams coaching experience at Cal, East Carolina and Austin Peay.

Ragle has been the special teams coordinator and assistant head coach since Kenny Dillingham first arrived to ASU, and he gave Dillingham his first coaching job at Scottsdale Chaparral High School in 2007.
Besides that and his arrival on Dillingham’s staff in 2023, he was Arizona’s special teams coordinator and tight ends coach for four seasons (2013-16) and held the same roles at Cal for two seasons (2017-18) before moving to an exclusively special teams role for three years (2019-21).
Ragle was also the head coach at Idaho State in 2022 when the Bengals went 1-10.
ASU plays at Iowa State on Saturday at 10 a.m. MST. It will be broadcast on TNT.
