ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A community event at the Rochester Community Sports Complex aimed to help residents in need took place today. Organized by the Chisel Collective LLC, a local nonprofit, the event provided essential support for those on Medicaid.
Charice Winston, a Senior Cares Manager with Chisel Collective, says they worked with Forward Leading IPA and other sponsors. They offered assistance with rent, utilities, and food costs.
The event was open not only to those on Medicaid but also to pregnant individuals and those with children, who qualified for rental assistance.
At a previous event, the Chisel Collective reported more than 800 people lined up for assistance. While specific numbers from today’s event were unavailable, attendees expressed the significant impact the help would have on their lives.
“I’m over here trying to get a little bit of help with my bills and stuff like that to catch up,” said Xavier Porter, who hoped to qualify for assistance. “You know, I’m the only man that works. My wife is disabled. You know, trying to catch up with everything, living check by check. So just trying to get a little help to, y’know, getting things better.”
The event concluded at 6 p.m., but two more are scheduled soon. The next event will be at Arnett Library on Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and at the Joseph Avenue Library on October 30th from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
