If there’s any possibility of Bobby Petrino getting the Arkansas job permanently, that’s in further jeopardy after Saturday.
The Razorbacks coughed up a 21-10 halftime lead on their way to a 33-24 loss to Auburn on Saturday. That included an ugly fourth quarter that saw Taylen Green throw 3 interceptions.
Petrino was 34-17 in four seasons at Arkansas from 2008 to 2011. But he was terminated for lying to university officials about his relationship with a staff member in the athletic department.
He returned to the sidelines in 2013, first at Western Kentucky and then at Louisville, his second stint with the program. He then spent three seasons at Missouri State before eventually (and rather surprisingly) returning to Fayetteville in 2024 as Sam Pittman‘s OC.
That brings us to Saturday. Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek has stated that Petrino would be considered a candidate for the full-time job. But even though the Razorbacks played Tennessee and Texas A&M to one-possession games and had a double-digit lead over Auburn, it hasn’t resulted in wins. Arkansas is now 0-3 with Petrino in charge.
Razorback fans on social media gave their thoughts on Petrino’s fading prospects of having his interim tag dropped:
That should signal the end of Bobby Petrino having the interim tag taken off. Another woeful second half offensive performance.

— Shaun Mercer (@ShaunMercer44) October 25, 2025Some teams have the “clutch gene” & some teams have the “choke gene”. This Arkansas team sadly possesses the latter & they just dropped their 6th consecutive game. The Bobby Petrino hype train took a hit today as well #Razorbacks #Football t.co/1WoI2BWKkC

— Dark Van Horn (@DarkGOAT69) October 25, 2025Defense played well enough to win but the offense can't keep the damn football. I don't take any joy in seeing us fail, but this shows Bobby Petrino, as much as he did 15 years ago, is not th answer.
