Weld County Road 77 reopened this week after five months of improvements between Weld County roads 106 and 114.
The road reopened Wednesday after work to strengthen the road and repair or replace seven culverts, according to a county news release.
“Weld County Road 77 is an important transportation route in the northern part of our county. It sees heavy commuter, truck, and agricultural traffic, so rebuilding it is critical to ensure it can continue transporting people and goods safely and efficiently,” Director of the Weld County Department of Public Works Curtis Hall said in the release. “We’ve now successfully rehabbed 12 miles of WCR 77 since 2023. We’re happy with the results, and we believe the traveling public will be as well.”
Logs were placed near the construction work to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion. The county used a process known as full-depth reclamation, which allowed them to reuse a portion of the existing asphalt to save time and money during the project.
“As we see with every road project, there are many more steps involved than what meets the eye — It’s all part of delivering the best improvements possible, from the road structure to the surface,” Weld County Commissioner Jason Maxey said in the release. “We’re happy these improvements are complete and that they’ve built on recent improvements to County Road 77.”
The construction was completed with support from a $1 million grant from the Department of Local Affairs. The remaining $3.5 million came from the county’s public works budget.
