Blue Jays Big Inning, Historic Granny, Coaching Updates, and Other Cubs Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

I got to watch our oldest in her first high school musical last night, which was really awesome. Then I got to chauffeur her and a few of her friends to Steak ‘n Shake for an after-party of sorts. Since it’s kinda far and I didn’t want to be shuttling back and forth, I decided to just stay in the parking lot and wait for them. Got me a pint of ice cream and my iPad, and watched Game One of the World Series. It was kinda weird, but also glorious.

Game One of the World Series belongs to the Blue Jays, and by a healthy wallop. Most of the damage came in a historic 6th inning, which saw the Blue Jays plate nine runs, including the first ever pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history, courtesy of Addison Barger. My completely unscientific survey of baseball fans has it that 95% of non-Dodger, non-Blue Jay fans were quite happy about the Game One outcome. That 6th inning went walk, single, HBP, single, walk, single, force out, grand slam, single, fly out, two-run homer, fly out. If the Blue Jays go on to win three more games, you can bet that the 6th inning will forever go down in baseball lore.

The nine runs Toronto scored in the sixth inning are the most in a single inning of a World Series game since Detroit put up a 10-spot in Game 6 in 1968, according to @ESPNInsights.

Cubs gave up ten runs in the 1929 WS during the seventh inning of game 4. They were leading 8-0. Lost 10-8.( Hack Wilson lost two balls in the sun )

— Bruce Levine (@MLBBruceLevine) October 25, 2025 The Brewers scored 4 runs and notched 14 hits in the NLCS against the Dodgers. The whole series. The Blue Jays scored 11 runs and notched 14 hits in Game One. There were only a couple managerial announcements this past week before the World Series kicked off, so it could be another week+ until we learn of the rest of the hirings. That could have an impact on the Cubs, as bench coach Ryan Flaherty is reportedly a candidate for the Padres job, the Orioles job, and – it turns out – is now among four finalists for the Twins job. In his season-ending press conference, Cubs President Jed Hoyer indicated that the whole coaching staff would be invited back for next year, but seemed to hesitate a bit on the implication that some may have other opportunities. He referenced reporting that was out there, so it was logical to conclude he was talking about Flaherty, who is very much an up-and-comer that the Cubs probably weren’t going to be able to keep in a bench coach role forever (and Craig Counsell has three more years on his deal). That is all to say, the Cubs maybe are anticipating that Flaherty is going to get one of these jobs already, so hopefully they’re able to do a little background work behind the scenes on possible new bench coaches for Counsell, just in case. You don’t want to be left behind in that search process if Flaherty winds up getting hired late in the cycle. The MLBPA may be in favor of removing player prop bets from MLB, given what we’ve seen can happen not only with the massive scandal in the NBA, but also with the Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz investigations.
