Overall Thoughts About the Cases
All of the cases arrived in Nomad’s familiar minimal, branded packaging. I found that every case fits the iPhone 17 Pro Max perfectly. All the camera cutouts and button placements are precise and each case includes a soft microfiber interior that prevents scratching and adds a touch of refinement. I truly love the look and feel of a premium leather case like the Traditional Leather Case. The biggest different between this case and the Modern Leather Case is that all external sides of the case are covered with leather whereas the Modern version has an exposed bumper. The Traditional case simply has a more premium feel, too. When you look at the two side-by-side, the vegetable-tanned leather on the Modern Leather Case, just doesn’t look as rich as the full grain leather on the Traditional case.
I also really like the aluminum camera ring. The use of it over the TPU raised edges on the Modern Leather case just makes the Traditional case feel like a step above the rest. The case as a whole is just a lovely companion for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. There are two versions of the Traditional Leather Case: one that is Horween Leather and one that is just full grain. The Horween Leather version is $20 more than the standard leather version.

It’s easy to slip the phone in and out of pockets without the material catching or dragging, which is something I always appreciate in a daily-use case. The leather itself feels smooth to the touch and has held up well during regular use. It hasn’t shown noticeable scratches or wear, which gives me confidence that it will maintain its clean appearance over time. The Modern Leather Folio feels like a smart evolution of the Modern Leather Case. Nomad added a wrap-around cover without compromising the quality or design that makes that case special. The stitching on the cover’s edges is beautiful and adds a sense of craftsmanship that elevates the look. Details like this show the level of care that goes into Nomad’s products.
One of my favorite features is the removable magnetic closure. I’ve always preferred folios with some type of closure, so this design feels like a perfect solution. It can be removed if you don’t want it, but for those who do, the magnetic hold feels strong and reliable. It’s a bit awkward to install at first, yet once in place the magnet is strong enough to do its job. I doubt it would keep the folio shut if it’s overstuffed, but with normal use, it will be fine.

The design has a clean, modern look, yet it feels durable enough to handle just about anything during daily use.
The only drawback for me is the color. I chose the orange finish to match my iPhone 17 Pro Max, but the shade on this case is much brighter than expected. It leans toward a neon tone rather than a subtle or burnt orange. While it certainly stands out, I would have preferred a slightly deeper hue to match the phone’s finish.

There is one important thing to note, though. For the Magnetic Leather Back to stay firmly in place, it needs to be adhered directly to the back of the phone (there are adhesive strips pre-installed in the liner).
