Atlantis Swimming’s Charlie McCuiston has verbally committed to the University of Arizona as a part of the Wildcats’ 2027 male recruiting class.
I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Arizona! First, I want to give all the glory to God for this gift and opportunity. I am extremely grateful for the endless support from my parents, as well as my amazing coaches—Drew Edson, Johnny Austermann and all of the other coaches who have helped me along the way. I also want to give a special thanks to the University of Arizona caches—Ben Loorz, Peter Richardson, Amanda Beard, Lauren Sullivan, and Jay Holmes for giving me this incredible opportunity. McCuiston hails from Birmingham, Mich., and represents University of Detroit Jesuit High School Academy. As a sophomore this past March, he claimed the Michigan Boys Division 2 state title in the 100 freestyle, setting a personal best time of 45.45 in the final. He also finished as the runner-up in the 200 free, producing a best time of 1:38.31.
Earlier this summer, McCuiston competed at the Speedo Junior National Championships (LCM). His top finish came in the 50 breaststroke, where he clocked 29.93 to set a new best time and place 81st. Additionally, he finished 95th in the 100 breast (1:05.63) and 103rd in the 200 free (1:56.20).
One of his best short course showings came at the 2025 NCSA Spring Championships in March, where he swam three of his top times of his career, including the 50 free (21.27), 50 breast (26.58), and 100 breast (56.37).
McCuiston also holds a 200 breast best of 2:05.09 from YMCA Nationals in April 2024, and a 200 IM best of 1:51.06 from the Catholic League Championships this past March.

Based on McCuiston’s best times, he would have finished 27th in the 100 breast, 32nd in the 200 free, and 33rd in the 200 IM.
McCuiston is just outside of scoring position already as a high school junior. With a year still to grow, he could find himself as a useful scoring piece to Arizona’s puzzle, in an effort to catch up to their in-state rivals.
McCuiston is currently the lone publicized recruit in the Wildcats’ 2027 recruiting class.
