Mohammed Shami isn’t holding back. Displeased with the lack of clarity, he’s hit back at Ajit Agarkar. Just yesterday, the Chairman of Selectors stated that the veteran pacer hasn’t been fit for selection, and that’s why he wasn’t picked for the India vs Australia series.
Shami & Agarkar disagree on fitness
Agarkar himself was replying to Shami’s criticism that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hadn’t provided him with any updates. He was stationed at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for some time and has since played two first-class matches, but the medical staff hasn’t cleared him yet.
“If he were fit, he would have been on that plane to England. The domestic season has just started, and we will see if he is fit enough. We were desperate to have him for the Australia tour, but he wasn’t fit. If he is fit over the next two months, the story might change,” Agarkar had explained.
Well, the pacer Bengal hasn’t taken that comment well. “Let him say whatever he wants. You have seen how I bowled. It is all in front of your eyes,” Shami told reporters in Kolkata.
The pacer’s explosive statement comes after he took 7 wickets against Uttarakhand at the Eden Gardens. Shami, who bowled 38 overs in the match, took 3 wickets in the first innings and the remaining 4 in the second innings. After Bengal chased the target of 156 down, Shami was also named the ‘Player of the Match’.
He surely made the ball talk, but didn’t miss out on waging the war with words either. Whether this tactic of Shami is correct or not, he’s making his displeasure known to Agarkar. We have seldom heard players speak about the lack of clarity from selectors, but more often than not, they keep quiet. Shami has decided he won’t do that and will express himself.
