TEMPE — Another week, another start for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett?
It’s certainly trending that way following a week of practice where Kyler Murray worked exclusively with practice squad players during two days of open portion work.
Once again, Arizona’s franchise signal caller is officially questionable for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
On the flip side, Brissett and Kedon Slovis were again working with players currently on the 53-man roster on the other side of the field.
Those small details — plus Brissett holding court at his locker much like last week — point to the quarterback getting the rock for a second straight week.

“Just continuing to prepare and honing in on the game plan and kind of just going about my business and making sure that when the opportunity comes just to be ready for it,” Brissett said Friday.
“The thing that helped me a lot is being in this offense before in Cleveland and being able to know how (offensive coordinator Drew Petzing) thinks a little bit and what he’s trying to accomplish with the plays,” the quarterback added. “I think it’s going through the week preparing and asking all the questions that I can of like anything that I have that pops up — even if it’s a dumb question — and trying to get those answers.”
Despite the short week of prep ahead of the Indianapolis Colts game, Brissett went out there and did his thing in the 31-27 loss, helping lead the offense to season highs in total yards (400), passing yards (320) and offensive points scored (27).
And while Arizona’s OC said there wouldn’t have been any drastic changes to the game plan, whether it be Murray or Brissett, there was clearly an added wrinkle of more under center looks and plenty of play action that worked in the Cardinals’ favor.

The added tailoring to the game plan around Brissett’s strengths only added to his confidence in the system.
“I think it started in practice, honestly. Just comfortable in the game plan and being vocal with Drew about things that I like and I didn’t like,” Brissett said. “I was working … with the idea that I got to go with the 1s and just running the plays that I was comfortable with and being vocal about either running it again or the adjustments we have off those plays.”
Another weapon on the way for Cardinals’ Jacoby Brissett?
Speaking of adjustments, the Cardinals offense had plenty midgame last week with Brissett at the helm. The biggest included Marvin Harrison Jr. going down with a concussion in the second quarter and Travis Vokolek picking up a neck injury early in the first quarter.
While the tight end is done for the year, Harrison is expected back in the lineup this week after clearing concussion protocol and not carrying an injury designation heading into the weekend.
Additionally, Zay Jones — one of Brissett’s favorite targets last week — has a chance at making it back on Sunday after practicing in a limited fashion on Friday.
Getting at least Harrison back should help spread the field that much more and give Brissett more openings to target tight end Trey McBride, too.
McBride and Brissett clearly built up a rapport in limited work together, with the tight end posting his best game of the year behind eight catches (11 targets) for 72 yards and touchdown.
That connection could pay dividends this week against the Packers, too.
Heading into Sunday’s game, Green Bay has allowed 250 yards and two touchdowns on 28 catches to opposing top tight ends across five weeks.
That’s definitely an area to exploit for Arizona, especially knowing how stout Green Bay has been against the run behind a league-leading 73 yards allowed on the ground.
Can’t forget about the late addition of Micah Parsons and his 30 quarterback pressures (third in the NFL).
“At every level, they have playmakers. They feel comfortable in their scheme,” Brissett said. “Obviously, they’ve been in it for awhile and they got a lot of good players.
“Adding Micah only added fuel to the fire for them. It’s going to be a good challenge for us. We’ve got to be on our A-game from the first play.”
