ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County is getting more money in opioid settlement funds.
The county is set to get $6.5 million, which is the result of two separate settlement agreements with opioid manufacturers found to have contributed to the national opioid epidemic.
The money will go in a trust fund for fighting the local opioid epidemic. So far in Monroe County, opioid settlement money has funded things like a 24-hour hotline, publicly available naloxone, street outreach, and more.
During the Monroe County Legislature meeting Tuesday, Legislators discussed what to do with the settlement and Legislator Rachel Barnhart called on the county executive’s office to establish a board to oversee the funds.
A response from County Executive Adam Bello’s office stated the county plans to use the money to install more free naloxone boxes, fund the 24-hour opioid hotline, and support a county-wide outreach team.
