In 2011, Britney Spears released one of the most dance-forward songs of her career with “I Wanna Go.” Written and produced by Max Martin and Shellback, the thumping Hi-NRG track hit No. 12 on the Global Dance Songs chart, where it spent 16 weeks.
Now it’s back with a fresh twist courtesy of John Summit. A longtime ID in Summit’s set, the official remix is out Friday (Oct. 17) through Summit’s Experts Only label and Darkroom Records.
Summit leaves much of Spears’ original vocal in tact, in moments chopping it up and adding spaces of near silence for dramatic effect, before dialing up the BPM and letting the whole thing loose with a bouncy drop.
Summit himself celebrated the release by sharing a carousel of his “fav diva pics” from over the years, with the gallery featuring images of him in his performing and partying prime. “This is the energy u must channel while listening to this remix,” he advises in the caption.
This weekend, Summit plays Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo., a show that will mark his biggest stadium show to date, with performances beyond that including his LIV Las Vegas residency and a set next week in Amsterdam during ADE.
Summit recently spoke with Billboard about the vision behind his Experts Only label, saying that “I always knew I wanted to make my own label and have a home for the next generation of artists. I never expected it to grow and blow up as fast as it did.”
