— Baseball America (@BaseballAmerica) October 15, 2025“Even with a handful of Top 100 prospects scattered around the league, Cubs catcher Owen Ayers has been the talk of the early days of the Fall League. His 14 total bases are the most in the league, and his four extra-base hits are tied with Tigers prospect Max Anderson for the top spot in that department.”
It’s early, but Ayers is hitting .333/.429/.778 with as many homers as strikeouts.
The Cubs’ 19th round pick last year, Ayers was putting up great numbers in his full-season debut at Low-A Myrtle Beach when his regular season ended in late-July. Because of his age and collegiate experience, you would’ve liked to have seen him reach High-A by the end of the year and show that the bat was simply too good there. Since that was not possible, the Arizona Fall League feels like a pretty good substitute in his situation, and if he keeps showing out, it’s not at all difficult to imagine him being on track to reach Double-A sometime next year.
Although he won’t bear the weight on his own, Ayers breaking out in a big way next year would be an EXAMPLE of the kind of thing the Cubs really need to be happening with greater frequency down on the farm.
