Trump's comments come as Hamas has reasserted its power in Gaza in recent days with a retribution campaign following the exit of Israeli forces under a ceasefire deal brokered in part by the U.S.
Hamas has killed at least 33 people since the ceasefire went into effect last week, according to reporting from Reuters. In one video, more than half a dozen men were dragged into a Gaza City square and executed.
The U.S. military on Wednesday warned Hamas to "immediately suspend violence and shooting at innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza."
Earlier in the week, Trump downplayed reports of violence following the ceasefire and hostage release deal between Hamas and Israel, saying the Palestinian militant group had taken out “a couple of gangs that were very bad” and had killed gang members.
“That didn’t bother me much, to be honest with you,” he told reporters, according to The Associated Press.
