Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday urged her followers to join the nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations protesting the Trump administration.
“In two days, be a part of the largest peaceful protest in modern American history,” Clinton wrote in a post on X, with the link to register for demonstrations attached.
“Join No Kings this Saturday at an event near you to push back on Trump's power grabs and make it clear—we don't do monarchs here,” she added.
The progressive group Indivisible says 2,000 No Kings protests are scheduled for Saturday. The protests are planned in cities including Los Angeles; Boston; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Atlanta; New Orleans; Kansas City, Mo.; and Bozeman, Mont. Planned protests stretch into Canada and as far south as Madrid, a town in Mexico.
Republicans have criticized the demonstrations, with several dubbing them as “Hate America” rallies.
This Saturday's demonstrations come amid the federal government shutdown, and tense situations in several cities involving federal intervention on crime and immigration.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) has encouraged federal employee members to participate amid the Trump administration’s layoffs during the government shutdown and threats of not receiving backpay.
Clinton has railed against Trump’s actions during his second stint in the Oval Office. She was defeated by Trump when he won his first term in the 2016 presidential election.
Clinton has slammed Trump over the indictment of former FBI director James Comey, and criticized his support for the removeal of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
“"You have to laugh about it, so you don't cry, because what is happening is so contrary to the founding principles and values this country was built on," the former first lady said during a September appearance on MSNBC.
"Why is the First Amendment the First Amendment? You know, it's because the people who constructed the, you know, architecture of this incredible country of ours understood what it was like to live under absolute power, where you would be told what to say, what not to say. … We've got to stand against that,” she added.
However, in recent weeks she’s also praised Trump for his intervention in the Israel-Hamas Middle East conflict and shows of force against Russia amid its war with Ukraine.
