ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Open Door Mission in Rochester, which had been operating at double capacity, announced a new partnership that promises much-needed relief.
Open Door Mission is teaming up with the nonprofit La Madonna Della Strada. This collaboration will allow La Madonna Della Strada to operate the first floor of Open Door Mission’s West Main Street location while renovations begin.
Open Door Mission will continue its shelter services as normal at its North Plymouth Avenue location, offering 80 beds to men and women.
“Operating a shelter at more than 100% capacity with the extreme behavioral, clinical, and spiritual needs facing our guests is simply unsustainable,” said CEO of Open Door Mission Anna Valeria.
Valeria says this announcement is a step towards getting better care and more beds for people experiencing homelessness.
The partnership between Open Door Mission and La Madonna Della Strada begins Wednesday and will continue for one year.
