ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Flags on all state government buildings will be flown at half-staff Wednesday to honor a retired trooper from Western New York who recently passed away.
Mark Ondus, 56, passed away on Oct. 9 from an illness stemming from his assignment at the World Trade Center site after the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001.
Ondus retired in January 2021 after 26 years with state police. He had been stationed at Troop T in Dunkirk in Chautauqua County.
A funeral service for Ondus was held Wednesday morning in Eden.
