What Is the Viral Pretzel Chain Hack?

The method is straightforward: Break off a small piece of a pretzel loop. Link another pretzel onto it. Dab the ends of the broken piece onto a wet paper towel, then reattach. Hold it for about 10 seconds until the pretzel loop “magically” reforms.Repeat the process, and before you know it, you’ll have a beautifully connected chain of pretzels. It’s one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” ideas that feels almost too simple to be real, but it actually works.

How To Make a Pretzel Chain

She used Snyder’s mini pretzels for her chains but noted that other brands could work too. The key is finding a brand of pretzel that will break cleaning without shattering. Mini pretzels that are on the thinner side seem to work best.

As for what to do with the finished product, Katon recommends treating it more like decor than a snack.“I think of it more as a party trick or decor element and less of an accessory,” she says. “You could technically wear it as a necklace, but it might fall apart easily—it’s pretty delicate. I’ve been thinking of trying it as garland on a small Christmas tree.”

What Happened When I Made a Pretzel Chain Myself

We also learned to make a continuous chain. Don't make a few small pieces with the hopes of connecting them together later, like I did, because the chain breaks easily. Even after drying, some inks fell off the chain when I picked it up, so be aware that this is something that can happen, but that's part of the fun!

What makes this pretzel chain hack so special is its simplicity. In a season often filled with stress and to-do lists, it’s a small way to pause and connect. You don’t need fancy supplies or hours of prep time, just a handful of pretzels and a bit of imagination.
