Michael Najera, a manager at the Green Solution dispensary chain’s location at 1995 Wewatta St., said sodas with 10mg of THC are especially popular with tourists. The store also sells packaged drinks that combine THC and caffeine, which allows users to experience a high without the sleepy effect.

Ian Clements, general manager at Native Roots in Edgewater, said the high from THC-infused beverages is similar to eating gummies, but different than drinking alcohol.

“I would say with the beverages, the THC is more controllable with its intoxicating effects than alcohol,” he said. “When used responsibly, it can be a lot of fun.”

THC-infused drinks like seltzer or soda appeal because they offer quick effects, usually felt within 10 to 15 minutes, that last one to three hours. Gummies continue to be the most popular edible option at most dispensaries.

However, the rising popularity of low-dose THC beverages — especially those made with THC and CBD derived from hemp — has gained traction. Hemp-based beverages can be sold in liquor stores, bars and restaurants, and generated more than $3 billion globally by the end of 2024, according to research firm Fortune Business Insights.
