This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Tammy Finch.
Finch is the co-founder and director of The Expedition School in Hillsborough, located in the Eno River Mill. It’s a STEM focused school that’s also full of art, music, poetry, and more. The Expedition School offers focuses a lot on collaborative learning and learning how to be part of a community. When Tropical Depression Chantal hit in early July and flooded the lower school, Finch, the staff, and volunteers began a clean up effort just two days after. 170 people were on hand with Finch leading the way. Even the kids were finding ways to get involved, including making cards and boosting the morale of the staff and volunteers. Thanks to Finch, along with the staff and volunteers, The Expedition School reopened in late August, less than two months after the tropical depression hit.
