Greeley police shot and killed a man who brandished a gun while officers tried to apprehend him on misdemeanor and felony charges, according to the Weld County Critical Incident Response Team.

Several officers tried arresting the man, who has not been identified, about 4:25 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of 27th Street Road in Garden City.

The man fled, and officers chased him on foot. During the pursuit, police trued to use less-lethal impact rounds but the man did not surrender.  He brandished a firearm while he was chased and was shot by officers, according to law enforcement.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is being handled by the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, or CIRT. The team is a group of investigators working with the Weld County District Attorney and comprised of personnel from each participating law enforcement agency in the judicial district. CIRT was organized to investigate incidents where a law enforcement officer in the district uses deadly force or attempts to use deadly force while on duty.
