The Cubs scored four runs in a postseason game for the first time in 13 games, going all the way back to Game Five of the 2017 NLDS. So that’s good. How about tonight (8:08pm CT at Wrigley Field), do it again in the first inning, but then also score some additional runs thereafter?
Craig Counsell has an idea on that front:"I'm gonna tell our guys it's the first inning every inning."The Cubs have scored 8 runs in the first inning this series, and 2 runs outside of that. pic.twitter.com/kFBbxtsnTw

— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) October 9, 2025 The Cubs just have to do it again tonight. Figure out a way to win. Don’t worry about the future. Saturday is an issue for another day. Saturday, I suppose. The Cubs haven’t officially announced their starting pitcher for tonight’s game, though Matthew Boyd would be going on normal rest this time if he’s the guy. I have obvious concerns there, given not only how he performed in Game One, but also how the Brewers have handled him well all year. The Cubs could try to go with a mish-mash of other arms for a couple innings apiece, but even in that scenario, you’d probably still be hoping to get a couple innings from Boyd. As for the Brewers, they can go with Freddy Peralta again on normal rest, which is certainly what I would do. If he’s feeling fine, I wouldn’t mess around with trying to save him for Game One of the NLCS – that’s a good way to find out you saved a guy for a game that doesn’t happen.Pat Murphy reacts to the Brewers dropping Game 3 of the #NLDS to the Cubs. pic.twitter.com/qRveRfS1pc
— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) October 9, 2025 Per Elias, Michael Busch is the first player to have multiple leadoff homers in a single postseason series. Brad Keller: heck yes. Just had to get that in here somewhere. Also, Drew Pomeranz: heck yes. What a couple finds. Even accounting for the fact that “breaking the wrists” is not actually the marker of a swing, this was still VERY clearly not a swing:How is that a swing?! pic.twitter.com/L572DovUFb
— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) October 8, 2025 I’m just glad it didn’t wind up mattering, because that’s not even a 50/50 situation. It just straight up clearly is not a swing. I still have no idea what this was:Kyle Tucker took off juuuust a little too early pic.twitter.com/aMPuNybH8n
— B/R Walk-Off (@BRWalkoff) October 8, 2025 The Cubs helped make a GOOD kind of history (for them):From ESPN Stats: The Brewers threw 53 pitches in the 1st inning, the most by any team in a 1st inning of a playoff game since pitch-by-pitch data has been tracked in 1988. t.co/wftDu34qwc
