Quarterback Jackson Arnold is having a solid season in his first year since transferring to Auburn. However, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is looking for the junior to play even more liberated starting with this Saturday against visiting No. 10 Georgia.
During his Monday press conference, Freeze alluded to wanting Arnold to be more open with his decision-making.
“He’s done an incredible job of taking care of the football. Truthfully, when we watch the film together, I would love for him to be a little freer, particularly with the playmakers we have,” Freeze said. “There are times when I think he would be if we could hold up another half a second or a second, but you want him to take care of the football, first and foremost.”
The 6-foot-1 Arnold has passed for 846 yards with 5 touchdowns and no interceptions, a clear sign that he values the football. Arnold has also rushed for 5 scores this season, with multiple games of 2 rushing touchdowns.
However, Auburn’s offense ranks last in the SEC while also being 14th in scoring offense in the conference. Arnold will have to contend with a Georgia defense that allows 18.4 points per game (32nd nationally).
