The Cleveland Browns have named Dillon Gabriel as their new starting quarterback, while Shedeur Sanders remains third on the depth chart.
However, while Sanders is listed as QB3, one Cleveland radio host believes that head coach Kevin Stefanski would turn to fourth-stringer Bailey Zappe before calling Sanders’ number.

Anthony Lima, host of Cleveland 92.3 The Fan, seems to be fed up with all the discourse surrounding Sanders. The two quarterbacks ahead of Sanders on the depth chart may also secretly share Lima’s sentiment.
“The only Shedeur question that anyone should be asking is would they go to Zappe before they go to Shedeur and I think the answer is yes,” Lima said. “They do not want to see Shedeur Sanders anytime.
“It’s why every day there’s a new leak coming from that building about how unprepared he is and how he’s walking around the building not doing what he’s supposed to.
“You think the Rex Ryan thing that came out the other day just came off the top of his head and he made it up? No! That’s what everybody has been hearing…
“Your dude fell for a reason. There is a reason that you guys thought he was top five and the rest of the league thought he didn’t belong in the NFL.
“You guys were wrong, everybody in the NFL was right and there’s a reason they were right.”
The Browns are 1-3 and have looked lifeless for most of the first month of the season. They’re set to face the Minnesota Vikings in London, where Dillon Gabriel will make his first career start.
A start against a Brian Flores-led defense, no less. Stefanski is hoping Gabriel can provide a much-needed spark.
But what if he doesn’t? Would Stefanski turn to Sanders? If Lima is to be believed, Stefanski would pass over Sanders in favor of Zappe. And if that happens, watch out. I’d suggest staying off the internet for a few days.
In the meantime, it’s now Gabriel’s job to lose.

It’s a game that one Pittsburgh legend is already chalking up as an easy win.
However, Stefanski has all the confidence in his third round rookie to meet the moment.
“Excited for Dillon,” Stefanski said to the media. “He’s done everything really well since he’s been on campus here. We’re just going to have to support the young man — coaches, players, offense, defense, special teams.
“I think the big thing for me is we need to all be better. We need to coach better, block better, catch better, run better — all of the above. We need to be better. And I know the quarterback position gets quite a bit of scrutiny, I understand that. But this is about our entire team.”
Stefanski noted that the onus is on the coaching staff to tailor the game plan to suit Gabriel’s abilities.

“Obviously, from the second he’s been here, he’s been working very hard,” Stefanski continued. “Very intelligent young man. He’s done a nice job throughout practice.
“He’s been — this whole season, he’s been learning how to get yourself ready and understand the rhythm of an NFL week and what that looks like as a backup. And now, feel like he’s ready to go in as a starter.”
Gabriel will have his first test on Sunday, an extremely tough one at that. Depending how it goes, Stefanski may go to Sanders or Zappe sooner rather than later.
