The Alabama Crimson Tide made a massive statement this past weekend with their 24-21 road win over the Georgia Bulldogs, putting themselves right back into the thick of the race for the SEC title and College Football Playoff.
Kalen DeBoer and the Tide had been taking a ton of flak following their Week 1 loss to the Florida State Seminoles, but they appear to have put all those early critics to rest with their statement against the Dawgs.
The perception of Alabama has changed considerably around the sport after Week 5, and former Heisman Trophy-winning running back for the Tide, Mark Ingram, talked about his view of his alma mater after their big win on a recent episode of The Triple Option.
“I feel good about how they have responded since the Week 1 loss,” Ingram said. “But, honestly, we have to move to the next game because the schedule isn’t a cakewalk… You’ve got Vanderbilt, an undefeated Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, LSU, Oklahoma, and then you’ve got Auburn, so this schedule is no cakewalk. The same improvements we’ve made from Week 1 to Week 5, we’ve got to keep making from Week 5 through the rest of the season.”
Ingram hits the nail right on the head here with his analysis, as the Tide got caught last season after a big win against Georgia, and it ended up costing them a spot in the Playoff.
Beating the Dawgs is a big deal, but Alabama can’t afford to dwell on the win. If they do, then they’re likely to end up paying for it down the line against one of the other stout programs Ingram mentioned.
