Warsaw-born Karolina had travelled to Bali to meet like-minded people, but instead she died alone of malnutrition.

Before she died, Karolina weighed as little as 3.5 stone and could barely support her own bodyweight.

Owing to the lack of key nutrients, her fingernails had turned yellow and her teeth had even begun to rot.

An investigation by the Cut revealed how the once happy teenager had fallen victim to this dangerous wellness trend.

To make matters worse, a prior eating disorder had made her susceptible to such life-threatening habits.

Yet it wasn’t until December 2024 when Karolina checked into the Sumberkima Hill resort that things took a turn for the worse.

Upon her arrival, the hotel staff were made plainly aware of her dietary requirements.

They were instructed to only serve her fruit, and that it should be delivered directly to her door.

However, the hotel manager said that it was not uncommon for guests to request vegan meals given the wellness nature of the resort.

Throughout her stay, hotel staff were reportedly taken aback by her “emaciated” appearance.

She had grown so weak that one evening she had to be escorted back to her room by the night clerk as she was unable to do so herself.

Concerned for their guest, staff members implored Karolina to see a doctor.

Sadly, each request was met with same declinatory answer.

Then three days into her visit, the hotel received a message from a local resident and friend of Karolina to say they had expected to hear from her since arriving at the resort.

However, they had become concerned after not hearing anything.

Upon hearing this, the hotel staff rushed to check on her.

They found Karolina stiff and motionless, dead alone in her room.

According to a friend of Karolina, around the time of her death, she had been suffering with developed osteoporosis and an albumin deficiency.

The Polish-native, who spent her entire adolescence battling anorexia, had finally succumb to her lifestyle choices.

As a young teenager, she suffered with body image yet it wasn’t until she moved to the UK to attend Leeds University that she became interested in yoga, whilst also discovering veganism.

It is unclear when she moved onto ‘frutarianism,’ but regular social media posts of her gaunt figure were enough for her parents to demand she return home to receive treatment her disorder.

Despite their best efforts, they were unable to convince her to change her ways.

Her friends also repeatedly asked her to make a change, but by the time she travelled to Bali it was too late.

Karolina wasn’t alone in her battle against the disease.

Approximately 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder, of which roughly 75% are female.

Hayley Morrison is someone who is channeling her experiences with anorexia as a force for good.

By documenting her condition to over 10 million people online, Hayley hopes to raise awareness about the illness that kills over 10,000 people a year.
