Home Game Day, Roster Spots, Kantserov’s Hot Start, First College Poll, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

The Blackhawks host a preseason game at the United Center this evening, which is exciting for those who want to see the new-look team in person. With more roster moves on Monday, the roster has been trimmed to a number that looks more like what the NHL roster will be when the team leaves to start their regular season in Florida. But there are still some undecided roster battles.

I wrote about the forwards who are still in Chicago fighting for the last spot(s) in the Blackhawks’ lineup. Scott Powers at The Athletic focused specifically on Lukas Reichel, whose roster position is more complicated because he would require waivers to be sent to Rockford.

It’s no secret the Blackhawks explored trading Reichel and, even in the last few days, let teams know he’s available. What happens over the next week is anyone’s guess. He could be traded. He could make the Blackhawks roster out of camp. He could be placed on waivers, and that could mean either being claimed by someone else or reassigned to the AHL.

Lukas Reichel could be playing for the Blackhawks, the IceHogs or even another NHL team come next week. A look at his situation⤵️ t.co/96XqXefLzN

— Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) September 29, 2025 Good read here from Ben Pope at the Chicago Sun-Times on another guy I wrote about battling for (winning?) a roster spot: Colton Dach. He brings a physical element the Blackhawks need. And he’s embracing that role in camp.

The Blackhawks have a tough guy void, which Colton Dach is eager to step up and fill."I don’t think I’m afraid to do that. I kind of enjoy it. That’s part of my game. I like getting in guys’ faces."Story: t.co/tCbbwV1wct

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) September 29, 2025 Kalen Lumpkins at the Chicago Tribune shared his thoughts on the Blackhawks undefeated weekend of preseason action. One of his four noteworthy performers from the weekend was Oliver Moore, who is in that group battling for a spot on the plane to Florida.

— Kalen Lumpkins (@kalenalumpkins) September 29, 2025 When the Blackhawks get back on the ice for a morning skate today, we’re expecting to see Landon Slaggert back with the team. Head coach Jeff Blashill said before the trip(s) this weekend that he could be back as a full participant today. We’re also hoping for a positive update on defenseman Alex Vlasic, who left the game in Minnesota early in the third period with a lower-body injury. Dominic Toninato cleared waivers on Monday. He was assigned to Rockford. How about a multi-point game from Blackhawks prospect Roman Kantserov in the KHL on Monday? With a goal and an assist yesterday, Kantserov has five goals and five assists through 10 games — which is tied for eighth in points in the KHL. Here’s his goal from Monday:

— ХК «Металлург» (@MetallurgMgn) September 29, 2025 The preseason USA Hockey men’s college hockey poll dropped on Monday. The Blackhawks will have prospects at Nos. 2 (Boston U. — Sacha Boisvert), 8 (Providence — John Mustard, Julius Sumpf) and 15 (UMass — Václav Nestrašil).

— USA Hockey (@usahockey) September 29, 2025 A reminder that the new CBA kicks in after the 2025-26 season, which means we’re now roughly 364 days from regular season hockey — in September.

A year from now on this day, we'll be gearing up for puck drop on the NHL regular season. Puck drop for the 2026-27 season is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 29. Yes, it's 84 games, but it's a shorter camp/pre-season. And real hockey in September. Sign me up for that.

— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) September 29, 2025 The Winnipeg Jets announced defenseman Dylan Samberg will miss 6-8 weeks with a broken wrist. The Blackhawks visit Jonathan Toews and the Jets for the first matchup on Oct. 30, so it looks like they’ll miss an important part of their blue line that night.
