Blockbuster Chiefs trade for $67m All-Pro ‘would make sense’ and can give Andy Reid his next LeSean McCoy ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

Kansas City put up 37 points on the Baltimore Ravens, and the Chiefs’ leading running back was a wide receiver.

With the NFL trade deadline approaching and Andy Reid‘s team needing a big upgrade on starter Isiah Pacheco, several teams could engineer a win-win blockbuster deal to give the Chiefs a real running threat.

“They thought Isiah Pacheco was going to be really good, a little further removed from last year’s injury, and he really hasn’t been,” NFL insider Dan Graziano exclusively told talkSPORT.

Big new weapon for Andy Reid

Alvin Kamara suddenly wearing Kansas City red would shake up the NFL — if the New Orleans Saints (0-4) are willing to agree to a trade.

“There are a lot of people sort of connecting those kinds of dots,” Graziano said.

The Saints are almost at the bottom of talkSPORT’s power rankings of Super Bowl contenders.

The Chiefs (2-2) are trying to return to the big game, while Patrick Mahomes is on a revenge tour after a frustrating 40-22 defeat to Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Kansas City hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2017, which was the same year that Mahomes was drafted with the No. 10 overall pick and saw Kareem Hunt lead the team with 1,327 rushing yards.

Mahomes has already proven that he can win a Super Bowl without an elite running back.

But the Chiefs’ best rusher in a 37-20 win over the Ravens in Week 4 was wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who ran twice for 38 yards.

Kansas City ranks 19th out of 32 teams in average rushing yards (110.5) and the Chiefs are 16th in total yards (332.3).

Kamara, 30, is still one of the premier running backs in the league, having made five Pro Bowls and being named a two-time second-team All-Pro, but it’s his pass-catching ability that could best appeal to Reid.

Tyreek Hill trade off the table for Chiefs

“We’ve heard Tyreek Hill and the Chiefs because of his history there,” Graziano said.

“But Kamara would make more sense, as in terms of what they actually need for their offense.”

Hill returning to the Chiefs via a trade is off the books, following a gruesome knee injury that has ended the season of the speedy Miami Dolphins wide receiver.

New Orleans’ 2025 campaign also could already be over, since the Saints haven’t won a contest entering Week 5 and were only predicted to win five games.

Also working in the Chiefs’ favor is the fact that Kamara is playing on a $9.7 million contract this year, and his two-year deal for $24.5m expires after the 2026 season.

“It would be the best and smartest move (Brett) Veach has made,” one fan tweeted.

Big help on the way?

Will Saints let Kamara go and start rebuild?

“This is assuming the Saints will deal,” a second fan wrote. “Not sure if that’s an option just yet.”

Graziano said that Kansas City has begun to reward a rookie running back while trying to amp up its struggling ground attack.

“They started giving some work this week to Brashard Smith, who’s a seventh-round rookie running back that’s kind of a pass catcher, get-him-out-in-space type, and I think you’ll see him more involved,” the NFL insider said.

But Kamara would give Reid the most dynamic offensive weapon — outside of Mahomes — he’s had in years, and allow the Chiefs coach to increase his inventiveness calling plays.

While Kamara’s 3.9 average yards per carry in 2025 is near a career-low, the Tennessee product has racked up 7,035 career rushing yards, 4,811 receiving yards and 86 total touchdowns.

Inserting Kamara into electric games with a Super Bowl trophy as the Chiefs’ ultimate goal could help revive the ninth-year pro — and give Reid a weapon similar to LeSean McCoy in his Philadelphia Eagles prime.

“In terms of the starting running back job, they probably could stand to upgrade,” Graziano said.

“Alvin Kamara, pass-catching running back in an Andy Reid offense, all of a sudden you’re starting to think about LeSean McCoy and guys like that from from years past, and it’s fun to think about.”

It could be a nightmare for opposing defenses if the Chiefs packaged Kamara and Mahomes with Travis Kelce, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Worthy.
