GENESEO, N.Y. — The National Warplane Museum is hosting “The Moving Wall,” a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The wall, which is 252 feet long, has over 58,000 names inscribed on it.
It first arrived to the museum on Thursday. There was a ceremony held where The Sons of the American Revolution presented a solemn 21-gun salute and performed Taps in tribute to the 21 Livingston County service members who were killed during the war.
Until Monday, Sept. 29, there will be local veterans and other volunteers there to help assist visitors, answer questions, and help people find specific names.
Visitors are also welcome to come at any hour to reflect in solitude or share the experience with others. Crayons and paper will be available for people who wish to make rubbings of names like they would at the memorial in Washington.
News10NBC visited the Museum Saturday, where we spoke to John Barkley, who earned three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. Barkley said it was nice for people to come out and pay their respects.
