ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A library at Rochester Prep’s Jay Campus Elementary School has been dedicated to honor the memory of Jaimie Magee Lesnick, a beloved teacher who passed away from a rare form of ovarian cancer in September 2020.
Jaimie taught fourth grade for seven years before her death at the age of 30. On the fifth anniversary of her passing, family members and former colleagues gathered to celebrate her life and legacy.
“Jamie believed deeply in the power of education and the doors that reading can open for students,” said Danielle Hinman, regional superintendent of instruction at Rochester Prep. “She understood that a classroom is a place of possibility, imagination and discovery.”
Staff said the library will reflect Jaimie’s love for learning and her commitment to students. In Jaimie’s memory, her family founded the nonprofit “Jaimie’s Bridge,” which donated the funding at the library at the Jay Campus.
The nonprofit gives $20,000 annually in scholarships to Rochester Prep High School graduating seniors. It has donated over $70,000 to Rochester Prep families since its inception.
