The 2025 Ryder Cup is heating up in New York with Europe enjoying a stunning first day against their American rivals.
Led by the brilliance of Jon Rahm, Luke Donald’s men have secured a three-point advantage from the opening eight matches.
President Donald Trump attended the Ryder Cup on FridayGettyAnother quartet of foursomes and fourball games will be held today before the 12 singles matches take place on Sunday.
The Ryder Cup is unlike any other event in world sport and we’ve enjoyed a superb week already.
And with plenty more elite golfing action to come, talkSPORT.com is here to bring you the latest news you may have missed in our ‘Unrestricted’ series….
How much?!
talkSPORT understands the cost of the Ryder Cup hosting Donald Trump on Friday topped $15million.
Trump arrived to much fanfare on Day 1 as his Air Force 1 plane flew over Bethpage Black during the morning session.
The USA president then walked out at the huge first tee grandstand, waving to fans before greeting each of the players ahead of the afternoon fourballs.
Security was made watertight at the course with Trump sitting in a box of bullet-proof glass and with secret service snipers spotted in the bleachers.
The 79-year-old is a huge golf fan but was at Bethpage for only around three hours before departing again.
And the eye-watering cost of the whole thing has been set at between $12million and $15million.

Beef it up
Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston has defended Rory McIlroy after the European superstar was spotted flipping his middle finger at some American hecklers.
Johnston told talkSPORT’s Weekend Breakfast: “You’re a target.
“He’s getting heckled all day. In the practice days, he’s getting heckled all day.
“I don’t know what someone says out in the crowd. We don’t know exactly the words said, but it could have been across that line.
“Maybe he’s just had enough of it for one day.
“I think it can be really hard when you’re in that environment and you’re so close to the fans, literally touching distance.
“There’s no barrier between fans and the players to some extent.
“You can hear everything as well. So maybe he just had enough of it. And if he did, he did. I mean, it is. It’s human.
“We’ve all been there. All day for four or five days of getting peppered. It must be tough.”
McIlroy appeared to make a rude gesture in the direction of the American fansRu what?
A Ryder Cup report from talkSPORT’s Rupert Bell was hijacked by an American fan last night, who insisted the home side will turn it around over the weekend.
Summing up the day’s play for talkSPORT, Bell began: “What a day for the Europeans, 5½ to 2½, who would’ve thought it but what a performance from all of the players. Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood were outstanding.
“Can they repeat the trick on Saturday? If we can, we may be getting close to a fifth Ryder Cup on away soil.”
Then a USA fan interjected to proclaim: “U-S-A, U-S-A. We’re going to win, don’t worry about it, we’re going to come back.”
Bell hit back with: “I don’t think they are but you can find out on talkSPORT.”
Keep up the great work, Rupert!
Brad choices…
United States captain Keegan Bradley insists he will ‘stick to the plan’ despite fierce criticism of his pairings on Friday.
The most head-scratching selection is the retention of Collin Morikawa and Harris English, who were thrashed 5&4 by McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, and they go head-to-head again.
A reputable source of golf data had ranked Morikawa and English as the 132nd of 132 possible combinations for the American foursomes, but Bradley will not be swayed.
“Well, we have a plan of what we’re going to do,” he said. “They beat us today, but we’re really comfortable with our plan.
“We’re really comfortable with those two players. Excited who they are playing tomorrow.
“It will be an exciting match, and we’re sticking to our plan. We’re not going to panic.
“We’re not going to panic and make those sort of mistakes. We’re going to stick to what we know.
“We have a lot of confidence in them. They were really bummed out that they lost their match today. They were eager to get back out on the course, and that’s why we did that.”
Rahm was brilliant for Europe on FridayGettyEuropeans speak out
Sergio Garcia, who believed he was unlucky to miss out on making Team Europe, was delighted with the first day’s play.
The Spaniard is a Ryder Cup legend and simply posted ‘Wow’ and a strong arm emoji when summing up Europe’s performance.
Fellow European great Lee Westwood added: “Fantastic 1st day for Europe.”
Laurie Canter, meanwhile, was another possible Ryder Cup contender for Europe.
But he has been left unimpressed with the setup of Bethpage Black this week, posting: “This golf course in September is boring.”
