Jon Jones makes huge career change to spark new collision course with bitter UFC rival Tom Aspinall ...Middle East

Jon Jones has revealed he’s now coaching Gable Steveson to become a UFC champion.

Jones was front and centre for Steveson’s first MMA appearance this month and couldn’t contain his excitement when the Olympic gold medallist scored a 99-second KO win on his debut.

Steveson, an esteemed wrestler and two-time NCAA Division I champion, made easy work of Branden Peterson under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner and has since received widespread praise from members of the MMA fraternity.

Many of those fans have touted the 25-year-old for big things, including a switch to the UFC‘s heavyweight scene down the line.

Well, now, Steveson has one of the greatest to ever do it right by his side in Jones, who also believes he can become a UFC champion.

Jon Jones says it’s ‘a matter of when’ Gable Steveson becomes UFC champion

“It’s not a matter of if he can, it’s a matter of when,” Jones wrote on X, responding to a fan’s question on whether Steveson can win gold in Dana White‘s promotion.

“I’ve had many great teammates over the years, but I’ve always said if I would ever be a coach it would have to be a wrestler who was completely committed to success.

“I found my guy and I’m excited to add world championship coach to my resume.”

Jones could coach Steveson to UFC glory and Aspinall meeting he never got

Through working with Steveson, Jones could see himself in the opposite corner of a Tom Aspinall fight, just not as the opponent.

Before announcing his retirement in June, ‘Bones’ was embroiled in a saga with UFC heavyweight champion Aspinall, who was the interim titleholder at the time.

Jones held the undisputed belt at heavyweight after winning it against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, and with Aspinall the No. 1 contender, he was expected to meet the Briton in the Octagon next.

However, the 38-year-old constantly played down conversations of facing Aspinall for the heavyweight strap, despite the latter’s eagerness to get the fight made.

UFC kingpin White has repeatedly dismissed talks of Jones fighting on his card at the White House

UFC CEO White then dropped the bombshell of Jones’ retirement, meaning Aspinall was elevated to undisputed status.

Jones, however, has since made a huge U-turn on his retirement decision, admitting he would love nothing more than to fight at the UFC’s historic White House event next year.

White has already made it very clear that he has no trust in Jones to include him on the card, saying the odds are about a ‘billion-to-one.’

Conor McGregor‘s highly anticipated UFC return remains the frontrunner to act as the headliner, but Jones hasn’t given up hope just yet.

Jones still has mindet to chase ‘one more’ fight

“MMA has given me everything I have today, it changed my life and my family’s life forever,” Jones said in response to another fan’s question.

“At this point, any more winning in MMA is a bonus. I’m simply grateful that after such a career, I still have the mindset to chase it one more time.

“There’s no guarantee I’ll reach this next goal, but I’m still striving.

“Too many people gave up on their dreams years ago, and [are] now mad at the world, mad at those still pushing forward. Keep pushing.”

Aspinall makes his first defence of the UFC heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane on October 25 in Abu Dhabi.

Should he come out victorious, just like Jones did against the Frenchman at UFC 285, Aspinall may reopen the door to a blockbuster clash with ‘Bones’.
