Nick Diaz, Al Iaquinta, Joe Lauzon, and Ryan Hall have all been released from the UFC’s official roster.
Iaquinta, Diaz, and Hall haven’t competed in MMA since 2021, while Lauzon has been out of action for almost six years.
Stockton’s own Diaz suffered a third-round stoppage defeat to Lawler in his last Octagon outing in September 2021Getty Iaquinta, right, fought just four more times in the UFC after losing a lightweight title bout to MMA icon Khabib Nurmagomedov in April 2018GettyDiaz has fought just once in the last 10 years, with his last UFC fight ending in defeat to Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 in 2021.
Iaquinta was knocked out by King Green in his last bout at UFC 268, while Hall secured a unanimous decision victory over Darrick Minner, and Lauzon scored a first-round stoppage win over Jonathan Pearce at UFC Boston.
According to esteemed MMA journalist John Morgan, all four men have now been ‘removed from rankings eligibility’ this month, meaning they are no longer part of the UFC’s roster.
While former UFC lightweight title challenger Iaquinta, who now works as a real estate agent, is the only one to have officially announced his retirement, it seems like there is now no path back to Dana White‘s promotion for Diaz, Lauzon, and Hall, too.
All four men had fights left on their UFC contracts, but the announcement means they are all likely retired and finished competing in the sport.
What happened to Nick Diaz?
MMA legend Diaz was meant to make a return at UFC 310 in December 2024, but pulled out from a fight with Vicente Luque for ‘undisclosed reasons.’
The news of Diaz’s withdrawal from the card came just days after worrying footage of him in public caused widespread concern from fans about his health.
In January, Diaz’s friend and training partner, Jake Shields, cleared up these worries by confirming Diaz was ‘heading in the right direction,’ after dealing with some personal issues.
Two months later, one of Diaz’s former MMA rivals, Jason Miller, said the 42-year-old was on the path to recovery in a fresh update, detailing the ‘sensitive’ nature of Diaz’s struggles.
Diaz was then involved in a bizarre saga three months ago when his ex-girlfriend claimed he had been kidnapped and held against his will at a rehabilitation centre in Mexico.
