COSTA Coffee has made a big change to one of its most popular baked treats – and customers will be delighted.
Earlier this year the cafe chain said it could no longer heat up its cinnamon buns in case someone burned their mouth on the hot icing.
CostaCosta said earlier this year it would no longer be heating up cinnamon buns after some customers had burned their mouths[/caption]Their buns were from that point only sold cold out of health and safety fears.
But it’s understood the chain has now developed a new way of warming up the buns which will prevent possible scalding problems.
Costa told The Sun: “We have listened to customer feedback and are pleased to confirm that our Cinnamon Buns can now be heated upon request.”
The news will be welcomed by customers who at the time complained about the original warming ban.
One said: “Why can’t I get my cinnamon bun ( best there is) heated? If it’s because of stupid H&S issues regarding hot icing, then why can you have hot cheese in your toasties?
“Come on Costa grow up treat us like adults, and heat your Cinnamon buns.”
Another customer added on X: “Justice for the cinnamon bun … bring them back warm.”
On Costa’s Facebook page, a fan fumed: “Cinnamon buns are just so much nicer when they are warm.”
The chain previously told one customer on social media: “We have had several reports of customers burning their mouths on the icing, so we have had to advise our teams not to heat these up anymore.
“We do apologise for any disappointment caused.”
Cinnamon buns have been the smash hit snack of the year, with Tesco’s “tear and share” version going viral and Costa releasing an accompanying Cinnamon Bun Latte.
M&S meanwhile is currently advertising the “season of cinnamon”.
OTHER COSTA CHANGES
The good news comes after the release of Costa’s new autumn menu, which includes the iconic Maple Hazel Latte, known for its sweet, nutty flavour, as well as the Maple Hazel Hot Chocolate.
Meanwhile, the chain has faced a string of store closures since September 2024, with at least 20 branches shutting their doors this year.
Costa Coffee on Seamoor Road in Westbourne closed for good on September 14 after serving customers in the town for 15 years.
A branch in Andover Bus Station is also among the closures, while Marlborough High Street lost its Costa on July 17.
Another store in Whitstable, Kent, shut on June 29, while another in Lyme Regis closed back in April.
