A man was shot and killed at a Panorama City park on Wednesday night, Sept. 17, and police were working to identify a suspect.
Los Angeles officers were called to the 8800 block of Kester Avenue, in the area of the Sepulveda Recreation Center, just after 11:55 p.m. and found the man, LAPD spokesman Officer Charles Miller said.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, Miller said. He was believed to be 25 to 40 years old.
A witness at the park told RMG News, a freelance news organization that sometimes works with the Southern California News Group, that he saw two men on bicycles approach the victim. There was a squabble and he heard at least one gunshot.
The man said he ran off.
“I was like, I don’t know if he’s shooting at everyone or just this dude,” he said. “But it seemed like he was trying to hit (the victim), so I just left my stuff there, and when they all left, I went back.”
“I don’t like that this happens,” the witness said, “but usually it’s really nice here, and I like this area.”
The victim’s identity was withheld by police pending notification of his relatives.
