SOUTH BRISTOL, N.Y. — Crews are working to clean up on Wednesday morning after a house on State Route 21 in South Bristol partially collapsed in a fire.

The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department says a dog died in the fire but the man inside the home escaped without injuries. The fire started around midnight and took about an hour to control. However, crews have been at the scene for at least five hours putting out remaining hot spots.

The fire caused part of State Route 21 to close. News10NBC saw the Red Cross at the scene and some fire trucks started to leave. Cheshire Deputy Fire Chief John Springer said Veterans Affairs was called to the scene.
