Shane Beamer addresses offensive play-calling criticisms ahead of Week 4 vs. Mizzou ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

The South Carolina Gamecocks entered the 2025 season with some very high expectations after just missing out on the College Football Playoff in 2024, and much of these hopes were riding on the back of their star quarterback, LaNorris Sellers.

The electric dual-threat gunslinger showed out during his first year under center, earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors, and entered the new season looking to take that next step in fifth-year head coach Shane Beamer’s system.

Unfortunately for both Sellers and the Gamecocks, though, things haven’t exactly gotten off to the start that anybody was hoping for over the first 3 weeks, with the offense struggling to get anything going early on.

This sputtering start has raised questions about the play calling and whether first-year offensive coordinator Mike Shula has been effectively utilizing the elite rushing ability of his star quarterback.

Beamer was asked about these rumblings on Tuesday afternoon, and he had a rather blunt response to the accusations, according to South Carolina beat writer Jordan Kaye.

“I hear all this crap about they’re not running the quarterback enough or something,” Beamer said. “We’re calling the same gosh dang plays as we called last year, guys.”

Shane Beamer saying he's not sure where this "conspiracy" is coming from that South Carolina isn't running LaNorris Sellers."I hear all this crap about they're not running the quarterback enough or something. We're calling the same gosh dang plays as we called last year, guys."

Beamer obviously isn’t too pleased with the notion that his quarterback isn’t being used in the most effective way, but the concerns over the state of the Gamecocks’ offense are very valid. If they are unable to get things back on track soon, then these concerns are only likely to grow louder moving forward.

South Carolina will face Mizzou in Week 4.
