PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Pittsford Central School District is telling families that items on its breakfast and lunch menu may change on short notice.
The district says it’s because some vendors are struggling to keep up with a rise in demand since New York State launched its universal free school meal program in September. Pittsford says every district participating in the meal program pulls from the same network of vendors.
Families can check Pittsford’s online menu for the latest updates. The district says that, despite the challenges, it’s continuing to serve healthy, free meals to students each day.
Since the universal free meal program started, lunch participation has doubled and continues to grow. During the first day of school, over 700 breakfasts were served, compared to none last year.
