The Autonomous Administration in northeast Syria, the governing body of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), reaffirmed its commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity and national unity, rejecting any proposals that would undermine its land or lead to partition.
In a statement released on Sunday, September 14, the administration stressed that power-sharing, decentralization, and calls for national reconciliation should not be mischaracterized as separatist agendas. Labeling them as such, it said, “distorts reality and deepens division among Syrians instead of strengthening their unity.”
It added that discussing population ratios or separating the communities of northeast Syria from one another is a “wrong approach” that threatens coexistence and undermines efforts to rebuild trust among Syrians.
The administration emphasized that any realistic framework for resolving the Syrian conflict must be based on UN Resolution 2254, which provides the internationally recognized path for a Syrian-led political solution.
It called for transforming the National Conference into a comprehensive process that would include all Syrian forces and components, serving as a unified platform to launch a serious path toward a “democratic, decentralized Syria” that reflects the people’s aspirations and safeguards the country’s unity.
The statement came two days after Syria’s transitional president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, said that the agreement with the SDF was set to run until the end of the year, with Damascus seeking to implement its provisions by late December.
He stressed that his efforts aimed to spare northeast Syria, under SDF control, from being drawn into a confrontation or war.
Al-Sharaa added, “Syria will not give up a single grain of its soil. We swore before the people to protect every inch of Syrian land and to ensure Syria’s unity.”
Link to March 10 Agreement
On March 10, al-Sharaa signed what was described as a historic agreement with SDF commander Mazloum Abdi to integrate the SDF’s military and civil institutions into the Syrian state.
The Autonomous Administration affirmed that the March 10 agreement, along with subsequent meetings between the SDF and transitional president Ahmad al-Sharaa, marked an important step in establishing common ground for constructive dialogue.
It added that these meetings were characterized by a positive atmosphere and a genuine will to reach consensus-based solutions, but this spirit has not yet been translated into concrete actions on the ground. This, it said, raises legitimate questions about the “seriousness” of Damascus’ official institutions in seizing the historic opportunity for a solution.
The statement noted that all specialized committees in northeast Syria, including those tasked with constitutional, administrative, security, and service files, remain fully prepared to begin their work once Damascus sets an appropriate timeline.
Border crossings
The administration pointed out that it is working to reopen border crossings, including the Qamishli–Nusaybin crossing with Turkey, describing it as a bridge of communication between Syria and neighboring countries. It argued that this step would reassure regional states that its policies are based on openness and cooperation, not isolation or exclusion.
It stressed that inclusive and responsible dialogue is the only way to safeguard Syria’s unity and future, and that involving all Syrian components in shaping the solution is the real guarantee for building a “democratic, decentralized, and just” state that respects diversity and ensures the rights of all its citizens.
Earlier, on September 4, the Autonomous Administration announced that it was awaiting official dates to resume direct meetings with representatives of the Syrian government in Damascus.
According to its official website, participants at the time emphasized the delegation’s commitment to continuing the negotiation track with Damascus and to preparing technical committees to begin discussions on merging administrative and military institutions.
The committee considered the March 10 agreement a fundamental basis for continuing joint work in support of Syria’s stability.
