The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the India A squad for the upcoming 3-match one-day series against Australia A, scheduled to be played at Kanpur. Although reports suggested that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would feature in the series, that won’t happen.
The senior pros, both of whom have retired from Test and T20I cricket, haven’t played for Team India since March and their last competitive game had come in early June. About two weeks ago, both had undergone pre-season fitness assessment, and it was rumoured that Rohit and Kohli will fine tune themselves before the Australia vs India ODI series in October.
But it seems neither them nor the BCCI thinks that’s necessary. Tilak Varma has been named captain of India A but since he’s part of the Asia Cup team, Rajat Patidar will take over as skipper for the first match. Fast bowlers Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh, who are also in the UAE with Tilak, will also link up with India A after the Asia Cup ends.
