Cubs Prospects Report | September 12, 2025

Triple-A Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs picked up a 6-2 win over Indianapolis after a late offensive surge. Jordan Wicks got the start for Iowa and was fine, going three innings, allowing a run and three hits to go with four strikeouts and no walks.

Iowa trailed 1-0 entering the top of the fifth when the bats finally got going. Owen Caissie got the Cubs on the board with a one-out RBI double to tie the game at 1-1. One batter later, it was Jonathan Long who came up with an RBI double of his own to give Iowa a 2-1 advantage. After Indianapolis tied the game in the sixth, Carlos Pérez put Iowa right back in front on the seventh with an RBI single. In the eighth, Hayden Cantrelle broke the game open with a two-run homer to make it 5-2.

The Cubs would add one more run in the ninth on a Caleb Knight RBI single, giving them a 6-2 win.

Double-A Knoxville Smokies

There wasn’t a whole lot to review from this one for Knoxville. The Smokies lost 3-0 on Thursday night to the Biscuits and were held to just a single hit for the game. That hit came off the bat of Carter Trice in the top of the third inning. Corey Joyce, BJ Murray Jr., and Ed Howard also reached base with walks. Connor Schultz had an okay outing on the mound. He allowed three runs over 5.1 innings of work, but also struck out eight.

Notable Performances

Carter Trice | 1-3 Connor Schultz | 5.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 8 K, 2 BB Luis Rujano | 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K, 0 BB

FINAL: Biscuits 3, Smokies 0 | Box Score

Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Unfortunately, after a remarkable second half, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ season has come to an end after just two playoff games following their 2-1 loss to the Columbia Fireflies on Thursday. The Pelicans got on the board first in the third inning on a Ty Southisene RBI single, but that would be their only run of the night.

Pierce Coppola opened for Myrtle Beach and tossed two scoreless innings. Kevin Camacho took it from there and went four innings, and gave up the two Fireflies’ runs on a two-RBI single in the fifth.

In the eighth, the Pelicans had a chance to tie it. Kane Kepley singled, then stole second base. Then Southisene walked, giving them runners on first and second with one out. Alexey Lumpuy struck out, but Kepley and Southisene stole third and second to make it two runners in scoring position with two outs. However, Matt Halbach grounded out to end the threat. In the ninth, the Pelicans went down in order.

Notable Performances

Kane Kepley | 2-4, 2 SB Ty Southisene | 1-3, RBI, BB, SB Angel Cepeda | 2-4

FINAL: Fireflies 2, Pelicans 1 | Box Score (COL Wins 2-0)
